Soccer player Ashlyn Harris is not afraid to show off her relationship with girlfriend Sophia Bush, saying she is the “happiest person ever”.
“I want to protect that, but I also don’t want to silence it,” Harris, 40, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting her new documentary, Game Changers: The Ashlyn Harris Story. “When we walk into a room, when we’re at home, when we’re on the couch, we can’t keep our hands off each other. I love that, because I love her with every fiber of my being.”
“And I don’t have to doubt that love. I don’t have to seek that love. I can just be in it. Quiet and peaceful and feeling this happiness. Why wouldn’t I want to share it? I don’t want to explode. I want to. I think anyone who shares the space with us can tell that in 30 seconds. It’s not theatrical. But when I’m sitting in this kind of abundance of happiness, I want to scream it from the rooftops.”
Harris and Bush, 43, began dating in October 2023, a month after the former Team USA star filed for divorce from his wife of nearly four years, fellow soccer player Ali Krieger. Bush filed for divorce from ex-husband Grant Hughes in August 2023, after 13 months of marriage, and the couple finalized their divorce in January 2025.
“I think what people are seeing is two people who went through some sort of difficult time and found each other,” Harris said of her relationship with Bush. “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been following, trying and doing all the work.”
Harris and Bush also “co-parent” their two children, daughter Sloane, 5, and son Ocean, 3, whom Harris shares with Krieger.
“Now we are safe, happy and able to raise our children in this family with love,” Harris said. “We’re just so grateful and lucky. We don’t want to censor that.”
In the new documentary, Harris is grappling with establishing her own identity following her divorce and playing career, which she describes as a “really weird place.”
“I had to do real work, and it wasn’t easy,” she told Us. “Life is full of hardship and sadness.[This documentary]is truly a love letter to myself. I’m proud of my courage just to drop it. Unfortunately, I’m going to hurt some people in the process, but now it’s time to choose me.”
Gamechangers: The Ashlyn Harris Story will premiere on June 8th on The Roku Channel.
