Euphoria’s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has addressed the confusion surrounding Alamo and Maddie’s shocking relationship.
“As for Alexa Demy, who is amazing, and Maddie’s amazing performance, there was a lot of speculation about whether she slept with him or not,” Akinnuoye-Agbaje, 58, exclusively told Us Weekly.
Akinnuoye-Agbaye did not have many questions.
“He’s spreading out his bikini, wearing Etta James, getting champagne and getting in the hot tub with a snakeskin speedo,” he said. “I don’t think he’s here to play with Otzi and the others, so I thought it was a given.”
‘Euphoria’ has caused a lot of confusion for viewers all season long, but now viewers are asking exactly what happened between Maddie and Alamo. Ahead of the Season 3 finale, Maddie (Alexa Demme) had to confess money to Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) after learning that Cassie (Sidney Sweeney) only had money for Nate (Jacob Elordi).
The actor enjoys the off-screen reactions to his character’s growth, adding, “What was interesting was seeing some of the so-called M and M, Mo and Mads memes with their four cocoa-colored babies. That’s kind of fun. But I’ve done my part. The rest I want you guys to make your own movie.”
Euphoria viewers were initially confused after Alamo forced Maddie to wear a bathing suit and get into the bathtub with her in a May episode of the hit HBO show. He eventually agreed to help Maddie obtain the $1 million she needed to save Nate (Jacob Elordi), but the scene was cut off before the rest of the exchange could be shown.
In the Season 3 finale, which aired earlier this month, Maddie visited the Alamo strip club, where he wooed her while proposing to have four children. Alamo begins touching Maddy on his lap, and then the scene cuts out again during a suggestive but unseen kiss.
“I think he saw something in Maddy that reminded him of himself,” Akinnuoye-Agbaje said. “She’s a businesswoman, bold, well-organized. She’s a serious person.”
Akinnuoye-Agbaje believes Alamo was “excited by that,” saying, “He was inspired by it. Once she came into his life, he accomplished everything, he took down the Drug Enforcement Administration, he took down Rory, he got rid of Lou the Rat, he got all the drugs and money. He was on top of the world.”
Alamo was ready to do something serious with Maddie.
“He realized that he had everything, but he had nothing. He had this great moment of introspection. He realized that he had been exploiting women all this time, and now he wanted to give himself to them,” he continued. “He thought, wrongly or rightly, ‘Okay, Maddie, you’re the one.’ But obviously, when he was cornered – I’m sorry – he threw her out the window and used her as a bulletproof shield.”
Akinnuoye-Agbaje saw only one ending for the Alamo. “He always put himself first,” he told us. “That’s the man. So did they have a future? He would have tried. Maybe they would have had a cocoa-colored baby. But I think whenever he was under threat – his empire or his own life – he would sacrifice her right away, as we saw in the showdown.”
Having played such a polarizing character, Akinnue-Agbaye is curious to see what role comes next, adding, “Personally, I always like to try something different. It could be humor, it could be comedy. One thing I can say is that I’ve played very rich, complex, multi-layered characters in the past, so anything I do has to be at least on that level.”
“I don’t care how it comes out. But I think I always like to keep the audience guessing. I enjoy disappearing from myself and transforming. So it’s probably going to be something different than what I’ve been playing. It might be the antithesis of what I’ve just played.”
