News has finally surfaced that Dutton Ranch has lost its showrunner in a sudden reshuffle.
Executive producer Christina Voros broke her silence on reports of director Chad Feehan’s firing, telling ScreenRant earlier this month that the writers had done a “great job building the rivalry of Rip and Beth” in the Yellowstone spinoff.
Voros said he didn’t have much to add regarding “the dynamics behind his departure.” She went on to say that the Dutton Ranch was still “new to the world” at that point, so a future without Feehan was “beyond” her knowledge on the subject.
The director expressed his gratitude to Feehan and his team for “creating the world in which these characters can move.”
News broke in April that Feehan would not be returning as showrunner after finishing work on season one. Feehan, who co-created “Rome: Bass Reeves” with Taylor Sheridan, reportedly left Dutton Ranch after alleging friction with series stars Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly.
Sheridan and his producing partner David Glasser, along with the two leads, are said to have been more dissatisfied with Feehan’s production management than with the script. No one in the cast has yet publicly mentioned the producer’s departure.

paramount+When Yellowstone first aired in 2018, viewers were introduced to the fictional Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana. Rip (Hauser) and Beth (Riley) have weathered major ups and downs together and quickly become a fan-favorite couple.
Since Yellowstone ended in 2024, the television landscape has expanded with the likes of Luke Grimes’ CBS show The Marshalls . Meanwhile, Dutton Ranch follows Rip, Beth, and Finn Little’s Carter as they adjust to life in Texas after living in Montana.
Annette Bening and Ed Harris will also appear on the show, along with newcomers like Jai Courtney, Natalie Alyn Lind, Marc Menchaca, Juan Pablo Raba, and JR Villarreal.
“As Beth and Rip struggle to build a future together far from the specter of Yellowstone, they collide with a cruel new reality and a ruthless rival ranch that will stop at nothing to protect its empire,” the show’s synopsis reads. “In South Texas, blood runs deeper, forgiveness is fleeting, and the only price you need to pay for survival may be your soul.”
Meanwhile, Sheridan is focused on other shows such as The Landman, The Mayor of Kingstown, The Lioness and Tulsa King. In October 2025, news broke that Sheridan had signed a major contract with NBCUniversal. The five-year comprehensive film, television and streaming deal begins on January 1, 2029, after Sheridan’s television contract with Paramount (which runs through 2028) officially ends.
Paramount will retain the rights to Yellowstone and any other franchises Sheridan has created under his contract with the company, so Sheridan is expected to create an entirely new IP for NBCUniversal. Sheridan’s move comes after the recent merger between Paramount and Skydance.
“Dutton Ranch” airs Fridays on Paramount+.
