A man who broke into a Florida home was arrested and shot to death by the mother after threatening her and her children.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a news release that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, June 14th.
Authorities said the home intruder, identified as Michael McDonald, arrived at Bunnell’s residence “uninvited and unexpected.”
“McDonald lifted the garage door open, exited the garage, banged on the back window, and entered through the front door,” the release states.
Once MacDonald, 33, was able to enter the home, he confronted the homeowner and her two children at the front door. After the man reportedly threatened his family, investigators said the homeowner ordered him to leave and told him he would shoot him if he didn’t leave.
MacDonald did not listen to her and continued to advance towards her, but she responded by firing one shot, striking MacDonald in the arm.
Deputies said McDonald fled the home in a silver Kia SUV after he was shot.
A homeowner reported the incident, and investigators began searching McDonald. He was then taken to a hospital where he was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries from the gunshot wound. Authorities then detained him at a hospital.
The sheriff’s office also confirmed that neither the homeowner nor the children were injured during the home invasion.

“Florida is your home state, and if someone were to break into your home and threaten you and your family, they would likely be shot and killed,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staley said in a statement shared in a press release. “I strongly support the Second Amendment, and this is proof of why we support your foundation law. This violent repeat offender did not learn his lesson. I hope he has learned his lesson now, because his poor decisions could have cost him his life.”
Authorities said MacDonald has a criminal history that includes prior arrests for grand larceny, possession of a controlled substance, resisting, obstructing, possession for sale, driving under the influence, and robbery with a firearm.
Following a recent home invasion, McDonald was charged with assault or theft with assault. He is currently being held without bail at the Perry Hall Sheriff Detention Center. However, bail may be granted after the arraignment hearing.
The investigation into this incident is still ongoing. It was not immediately clear whether McDonald entered a plea or hired an attorney after his latest arrest.
