James Van Der Beek’s ex-wife Heather McComb has married Scott Michael Campbell.
“Yesterday, @scottmichaelcampbell and I were officially married by God’s covenant, by my beautiful sister @essence_says, in our favorite city, Missoula Montana, surrounded by the people we love the most in the world,” McComb, 49, wrote on Instagram on Sunday, May 31, announcing their nuptials. “Our hearts are filled and humbled by all the love that has surrounded us. God is so kind. Thank you to all our family and friends who came with us from all over the country. Thank you Jesus, the Creator of the Way and the Miracle Worker!”
She continued, “You all were so special and created a truly magical weekend that we will never forget. We sit here and count our many blessings. Thank you to everyone for making this so special for us!”
McComb also shared a series of photos from the celebratory event, including one that showed her smiling with her arm around Campbell at the altar.
McComb was married to the late Van Der Beek from 2003 to 2010, the same year James exchanged vows with Kimberly Van Der Beek. The couple later welcomed six children.
News broke in February that James had passed away at the age of 48 after battling stage III colorectal cancer. McComb paid tribute to James in an emotional Instagram post at the time.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out,” she wrote. “I appreciate and feel your love. My heart is broken by the loss of my beloved James, especially his wonderful wife Kimberly, his beautiful children and wonderful family Jim, Jared, Juliana, and all of his family and friends that I know he loved deeply.”
Along with the message, McComb uploaded a black and white photo of her and James cuddling. She explained in the caption that the image was from her 21st birthday, when James’ Dawson’s Creek hadn’t aired yet.
“That way I will always see James as innocent, kind and pure of heart,” she wrote. “What a journey we have shared over the years. I sit here with immense gratitude for the special connection, friendship, and love that James and I have shared over the decades. I will cherish the last words of love we shared. James He was a beautiful soul filled with so much light, love, talent, humor, depth, sensitivity, knowledge, and the deep love of God that shined within him. He was so bright, but so humble and human. Always exploring, always growing, always going deeper, always pursuing things outside of his comfort zone.”
“I know that James loved being a father so much, and oh, how he loved Kimberly with all his might. A true soul mate. The way she appeared before him with such grace was so beautiful and I will forever admire him. James was a blessing to everyone who knew him, and now he is a blessing to everyone because of his boldness in sharing his journey so bravely with the world.”
In the caption, McComb prayed to God: “Please hold Kimberly, her children, her family, and everyone who is grieving his death in your arms.”
“You are the healer of all healers,” she concluded. “Thank you Jesus for bringing this beautiful soul into the world and into our lives. We love you James and know that so many loved ones have welcomed you home. God bless you. Until we meet again, sweet soul. Please keep us in your prayers 🙏❤️”
