Boston Blue Stars will not return for season 2 after recast

Donnie Wahlberg’s Boston Blue is returning for a second season. So, after a major cast change, who’s coming back and who’s not?

Before Boston Blue, Blue Bloods followed the lives of the Reagan family, many of whom worked for the New York City Police Department under the guidance of New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). Frank’s father, Henry Regan (Len Cariou), was also a central character on the show, along with Frank’s children, daughter Erin Regan (Bridget Moynahan), and sons Danny (Wahlberg) and Jamie Regan (Will Estes).

The show aired from 2010 to 2024 until CBS announced a spinoff. Wahlberg’s character will be at the center of the spinoff, which will get even more exciting as the former NYPD officer takes on a role with the Boston Police Department. He then teams up with Detective Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

Despite keeping many details the same, Boston Blue underwent a change when Mika Ammonsen was added to the cast as Sean, who was conceived by Andrew Terraciano. Boston Blue was successful and broke the CBS record by breaking it.

The character played a major role in the Blue Bloods spin-off after Mika Ammonsen was recast in the role of Sean.

Xochitl Gomez

Mika Ammonsen hinted that Sean’s romance with Penny (Xochitl Gomez) will continue to be explored, but it’s unclear how long it will last.

Bridget Moynahan

Bridget Moynahan’s character Erin, aka Danny’s sister, was the first person to cross over from the Blue Bloods to the Boston Blues. Moynahan has since directed an episode, but his potential return to the screen remains unclear.
